This YA post-apocalyptic novel should definitely make the TBR list! The story follows Mara, a Tick in remission from a zombie type disease, and Rory, an uninfected human girl who has watched so many people she loved be taken by the disease. That includes Mara. Rory and Mara shared a connection before the whole world fell apart, but can they find a way to a new normal together? When Mara is sent to live with Rory’s Island community of survivors as part of a training program, not everyone is on board. When soldiers start going rogue, the fragile relationship between Mara and Rory is threatened yet again. Can they overcome or will they lose their love forever? This is a story that I greatly enjoyed! I don’t usually go for a zombie book, it this one has a plot that is original and characters that really make the intrigue and thrills top notch. I love the concept of reintegrating Ticks into a society that is already so torn apart. I feel like there are so many metaphors in life that we can relate this too. I loved being able to read each girl’s POV and see how they navigate the situation and react. The representation is great and the thrills are awesome. It was a little bit of a slow start, but the plot definitely picks up and I was on the edge of my seat. Great read! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
