There’s something about both of these characters that makes them feel like they haven’t experienced the heavy things the narration implies. The cover is great, and I like the concept, but Rory’s “plucky, snarky tough girl” energy is grating and surface-level. I’m sure that there’s a readership for it, and I love the sapphic zombie concept, but it’s not for me.
