I really really wanted to like this book. I really wanted this to be a bit like something Khaled Hosseini would write, with his painfully human prose.
That said, Nadine Bjursten is nothing to scoff at. I recognize that this book was not my jam, but Bjursten threw her heart into this work and it shows. Her characters are beautiful and flawed and human and they react as a human should react. If this is Bjursten's first work, she is off to a really great start. If this is not her first work if fiction, then she still has a bright future ahead of her.
This book has shown that she has the chops to lay a story down for the world and it is an incredibly impressive feat that most will never attempt, much less succeed at. For her future works, I would like to see a more developed writing style, but either way, I will be here to read whatever it is that she writes.
