The story of Amineh is a fascinating and sad story which takes place in Iran in 1977 as the university students protest against the shah. As the Iran replaces one tyranny with another, more restrictive one, Amineh is torn from her love of literature and poetry and pushed into a future that was not the one she pictured. This is a story full of passion which has a lot of strong characters. I cannot begin to imagine living through the Iranian Revolution and giving up so much. It is very relevant to the present day in Iran as women continue to struggle. I would not have known of this book had it not been featured by Bookish First. I learned a lot and I am very grateful to have received a complimentary copy of this book. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to step outside of the American culture and step into an extremely different life and culture.
