unexpectedly smooth and intriguing read!

i'm not a huge litfic reader, but man, this book has got a great first twenty pages! something about the author's prose made the book extremely easy to digest while also being vivid and atmospheric. plus, i'm excited to learn more about the events around which this book is set, since, i'm sorry to say, i'm not too knowledgeable on iranian history in the 1970s. finally, i'm interested to see where amineh's journey will lead her in this time of immense change and protest, seeing as she seems to be less radical than her friends and more quiet about her stances.

and that book cover — it's just gorgeous and amazingly serene to look at. looking forward to reading this book!
