I’m kind of blown away by how how beautifully written this was and how quickly I came to care for Amineh. Honestly, I’m not in love with the cover of the book and the description didn’t sound like something that would pull me in. I enjoy historical fiction and I enjoy learning about history through these books. And I definitely feel like this book would teach me. But beyond that, I misjudged the book as potentially dry just because I didn’t fall in love with the way the description was written. This is why I love reading excerpts on BookishFirst. I will read an excerpt for practically anything, even if it doesn’t sound like something I’d normally pick. And then I find something new and wonderful that I wouldn’t have found by myself.
