This is a story about a mother and daughter, and then the changing of caregiver roles. The love and bonds of family are deep and tested when there are changes in our roles. Death is never easy, but a long and slow process and witnessing the pain a loved one must endure puts you thru all sorts of emotional turmoil. Caring for someone you love and reliving them as healthy and then seeing them diminish before your eye will tear not only at your heart but your sanity. The author explains her grief, her caregiver story but most of all how our system is broken. How we don't treat the elderly well and how a medical system can make immediate decisions based on age or just the fact that death is ok. I've been a caregiver and I've witnessed loved ones in the end and the unbelievable pain is so well described in this book, along side the deep connection we make as a mother/daugther relationship in life!
