Grief and Grits is a story about a woman named Marsha Gray Hill and her journey through the loss of her mother. The story takes place during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a tough time for all and there was fear running rampant. Her story takes place in Florida which is one of the worst places you could be, lots of people denying what was happening and no leadership turned into a disaster for the state. The back cover says: " This is a story about America, about how we view the most vulnerable people in our society—our aging and elderly—both in times of crisis and in our everyday lives." That is a very good question and the author helps us to understand a bit better by telling her story. It is not all happy, it is real life which is tough and heartbreaking at times. As she says, nothing can prepare you for that intensity of sorrow that comes from caring for a sick aging parent. But do not worry, there is plenty of laughter to keep you turning the pages. All in all, it was a nice tribute to a mother by a strong and loving daughter.
