I’ll be honest, I’m not much for military romances but when I read the synopsis for this I was intrigued. I’m so glad I gave this a chance because I fell so hard for these characters. Yes, the military theme is there but it’s subtle. This book is so much more than that. It’s about redemption, heartbreak, and family messes. It was real and it at times, beautifully poetic. Everything about this book was gold.

“Wanting you is all I’ve ever known. You’re in my blood, my bones, my soul.”

Camden leaves the military after getting a startling voicemail from his father. It was unexpected considering it had been years since he’s heard from him. Upon arriving in his small home town things are instantly chaos and you can tell he’s just trying to keep his head above water. Literally his first day home he runs into the one person he swore he’d never cross paths with again…Willow. His dead brother’s girl and the girl who owns his heart.

These characters were so real and relatable. As a military spouse, I sort of know the chaos that goes into coming home and I felt as if Camden’s experience was true. Willow was the girl left behind and has found herself in a precarious situation now that Camden’s home. Even with her family’s views on things, she has a backbone and stays true to herself throughout the entire book.

The story itself was raw, heartbreaking, and beautiful. I couldn’t get enough of it. The small town, the crazy gossip, and the main characters pulled me in and I found myself absorbed into this story. Yarros is amazing and I really, really enjoyed this book as a whole.
