In Granite Harbor, life has continued on quietly for decades. That is until a local teenager is found murdered in the town's historic archaeological site, the Settlement. Adjusting to life as a single dad with a failed novelist career, Alex Brangwen is the town's sole detective. This is his first murder case and he knows the people of Granite Harbor are depending on him to catch the killer and temper the fear that has descended over the town.

Isabel is a single mother who is attempting to support her family while healing from her own demons. She finds herself in the middle of the case when she begins working at the Settlement. Isabel's son, Ethan, and Alex's daughter, Sophie, were best friends with the boy who was murdered. When a second teenager is found dead, the body left in the same manner as the first, both parents are terrified that their child may be next. As Isabel and Alex race to find the killer, the town's secrets, both past and present, begin surfacing, threatening to unravel the tight-knit community.

I thought the suspense in this one was good but think the ending could have been stronger.
