not my genre; dialogue and description don't match well

The descriptions are very beautiful and the language flows well, but then when it switches to dialogue it's suddenly pithy and feels unnatural. I find the back and forth rather jarring. It's not my genre either, and there is nothing in the excerpt to draw me in and make me reconsider.
