I quite liked the cadence of the writing. The narration has a clear voice and flows easily, quickly drawing me into the story. Immediately, we're introduced to three inseparable teenage boys, a shady man in a pickup truck, an ex-teacher turned historical reenactor, and a detective named Alex. The characters are already rich, brought to life with both dialogue and action.
The cover of the book is gorgeous. The black silhouette of the dock and the man against the setting sun is visually appealing without being overstimulating. The tone of the cover reads "thriller" very clearly.
