Gorgeous Gruesome Faces is the story of Sunny Lee, an eighteen year old actor and popstar who spends time reminiscining about her career that was cut short by scandal. Sunny joins a K-pop workshop in hopes of reconnecting with her estranged groupmate Candie and confronting the demons of their shared past, only to find that the past isn't quite ready to stay that way.
This book had me on edge the entire time! Told in Then and Now, readers get see Sunny bonding with her group mates Candie and Mina, while also knowing their friendship eventually takes a dark and deadly turn. This book also explores the expectation to conform as the girls all begin looking the same, losing their personalities, and otherwise disappearing as they're shoved into the same mold and pushed out the other side. While I usually tend towards sunny contemporary and fantasy books, I loved how the horror elements played out in this one, with supernatural twists keeping you guessing at every turn. It's a perfect read for fall and scary season!
