Too Odd For Me
Where to begin? I'm not sure the author knew where the story was going. It seemed to be all over the place. Was it a love story, Voodoo, Korean Folklore, Hunger Games reimagined or just a weird nightmare?
The jacket cover says that it's, "spellbinding sapphic thriller". There wasn't much of a love story; that could have been explored more. Yes, there was a 'thriller' aspect in the last 44 pages (256-300).
The dialog did not seem natural to what teenagers would say. That was awkward. Sad that I didn't connect with any of the characters, they just seemed one dimension.
I did like the dual time line. The 'Then' catching up to the 'Now'. I will say that was clever. And the description of the thriller-sacrifice-chase-scene was very descriptive, where one could easily envision what was happening.
I will say that the print copy was not up to standard. It was very hard to read the text messages. They were printed light grey on grey.
