I was not prepared for the wild randomness this book had, but it was pretty neat. This book felt less Squid Game and Yellowjackets and more Perfect Blue to me.
Even though I will keep the She Is A Haunting comparison. The random twists and turns gave me whiplash. I went from being annoyed by Sunny to liking Sunny to wanting Sunny to be safe and be in love and safe the day. Same with Candie. I thought Mina was supposed to be a play on Mima from Perfect Blue with her having a bob and always showing up in a pink and white dress. It seemed too similar to be unrelated. I wasn’t sure how this was going to set up for a sequel but the set up was actually interesting and I’ll be waiting to see where the next book goes.

I appreciated the look that this book took at celebrities and how they actually are. Sunny went through a huge scandal and then had something horrible happen and it followed her everywhere. She will probably never be able to get away from the spotlight of her mistakes and tragedies. Candie was actually badass and I liked her character more and more as the story progresses. I liked how it went back and forth in time to fill in gaps for the audience and give us insight to Sunny and Candie’s past.

This was a very tame horror book in my opinion, but I really enjoyed it. It didn’t go the way I thought it would but it was a fun read. I also appreciated that this was short and fast paced so it went by in a blast! I was fully invested in the ending.
