Let me start by saying I went into this thinking the book was going to be much different after reading the first look. Also, I know the author is quite popular, and while I have heard of the work she has done in the past, I have not read any of it.

Memoirs aren't usually the type of books I read either, but after I read the first look I was intrigued. Now that I have finished reading it, I am so happy I did. If I had to describe this book in one word, for me, it would be beautiful.

The story, although real, and raw and very emotional, was beautiful. And it was beautifully written. Its about love, and how love should be simply, but it ever is. And its about the love you have for your pets, you can have that same love with others.

I love my dog, in fact, I'll go as far as to say i'm obsessed with him.(some may say unhealthy obsession, but haters gonna hate. I don't hear that noise) But that love for my dog was immediate. There was no question about it, it was instant, and it's boundless. So why is it that we find it so easy to love our dogs, or our pets, but with people we don't? Shouldn't that love help teach you the love everyone?

The author talks about the impact of learning to love her dog has had on her life, and how it's helped shape her into the person she is today. It made me really think about when I was younger and the dogs I had growing up, and how much I loved them, and how sometimes I knew they loved me. It resonated with me.

This might not be a book for people who don't really like dogs, or pets in general, because well it does talk about dogs. I can see how they might not be able to make the connection to the story. I get that. But I would still recommend giving it a shot because the story isn't just about loving your dogs. It's more than that. It's really about love. This book just happens to be one of the authors versions of love (which happens to involve dogs)
