Good Boy: My Life in Seven Dogs, by Jennifer Finney Boylan, is a memoir about Jenny's journey from boyhood into manhood into womanhood, as told through the lens of the dogs in her life. Each of the dogs represents a different phase in her life and different lessons learned. As a transgender woman, Jenny has an extremely unique journey to share; at the same time she recounts many of the same joys and heartbreak to which any dog lover can relate.

I enjoyed reading Boylan's memoir - it made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me think. The book tends to meander quite a bit through different time periods, despite the central concept of using the procession of dogs through Boylan's life as a timeline. The story, however, is sweet, funny, and poignant. It's a bit like listening to an eccentric but beloved aunt tell stories of her life in a vaguely organized manner. I would recommend this book for dog lovers as well as for people who enjoy memoirs about uniquely beautiful people. It's so important to read stories about different people in the world, and I truly appreciated Boylan sharing her journey.
