The way the author integrates the different dogs with the different stages of their life and transition was very creative. It's very interesting to read. At times I got lost because it bounced around a bit but in the end I found it to be interesting. It helped me make sense of Jennifer Boylan as a person. I haven't read any other books by this author but I would definitely check them out after reading this book. I loved her statement that the unconditional love we feel from our dogs is actually our unconditional love for them, which is absolutely the truth. I do wish that she touched up on each subject, the dogs' stories and her families story. I will say that it gave me more incite on transgender people and her journey from a boy to a girl.
