I read the beginning of this book during quarantine and IT IS BREAKING MY HEART! It makes me miss my fur-nephew (sister and brother-in-law's cockapoo, Diego), who I have not been able to see in over a month. He is perfect and loves unconditionally - although, Jennifer Finney Boylan would disagree! Fine. I disagree a little too. To an outsider, Diego is probably very spoiled and barks too much and pretty much all around misbehaved, but he can still do no wrong in my eyes!
I loved this introduction. It gives you a good sense on what to expect - a lot of internal discussion on the role of one's gender, how dogs shape our lives, and a sprinkle of heartbreak (when Indigo passes) with some joy. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the book!
