This is an interesting memoir that intertwines the life of the author and her family with the dogs she has loved over her lifetime. She begins with her childhood dog and continues up to the present day. She makes the point that she feels that the purpose of life is to love and be loved, and that she believes dogs help people learn how to love unconditionally. The author is an accomplished writer and this is a beautifully written book that is very powerful and very moving in places. It's interesting how she relates people she has known throughout her life to their dogs and what she thinks those dogs revealed about their humans.
