When I saw the cover for this book, I thought :Well duh! Of course I've got to read a memoir with a dog on the cover!" Memoirs are my favorite genre and dogs are a big part of my life so I love combining the two. Once I learned more about the author and realized that the colored lettering is there for a reason, I knew I just had to crack this one open. My goal this year is to read books by more diverse authors and learn more about people that aren't straight, white, and/or cis male. This one really nails that!

I really enjoyed the voice of the author in this excerpt. You expect a book about books to be all fluffy and cute but so far, that's really not how it feels to me. But I actually like it that way. She sees some of the truths in ownership and that is really refreshing. I also love the idea of separating the stages of your life by the dogs that inhabited those years. I cannot wait to read more and will be looking at this author's other books as well.
