Marissa Meyer has done it again, and come up with a fab idea and then draws it out too long. I loved the Cinder series except for Winter because I didn't think that the book needed to be 800+ pages, and I felt the same way about Gilded. The first 100 pages were excellent and fast paced and then the story just...kept...going.
This was not a bad book by any means, but it is an intimidating one. I think her editor is doing her a disservice. I think her writing is engaging and fast paced enough to attract a reluctant reader, but the sheer size of her books can make for a hard sell.
It would have been a great 350 page book! But at over 500 pages and a sequel that promises to be just as long I think I will pass this one along to another Meyer fan who will hopefully love it more than I did.
I will be sad to see this cover leave my shelves though, because it is seriously pretty
