Marissa Meyer’s retelling of Rumpelstiltskin. It’s set in a fantasy world, and the main character, Serilda, is known for her supposedly completely false tales. After these stories catch the attention of the Erlking, Serilda winds up in his castle - she must spin hay into gold, or die. She is unable to do so, but a mysterious ghost who introduces himself as Gild completes the task for her. Throughout the novel, Serilda and Gild work together, discover secrets about themselves and the Erlking, and fall in love - but not without encountering plenty of hurdles.

Overall this was a good book - I enjoyed learning more about the world, and it was interesting to watch these characters develop. However, Gilded didn’t really capture my attention the way the Lunar Chronicles or Heartless did; while I am indeed curious to know the ending of the story, it isn’t a necessity and it will probably be a while before I pick up Cursed.
