I’m a huge fan of Marissa Meyer so I was very excited to get this book! Right off the bat, she drew me in with the protagonist who has a lot of spunk, passion, and personality! Although she’s faced with so much opposition from birth, this is yet another one of Meyer’s characters who you root for with the utmost confidence in her ability to overcome even the most impossible obstacles.
The fairytale embedded in this retelling is rich, fanciful, and dark—all of which was so enjoyable to read in tandem with Serilda’s thrilling story of love, hope, and adventure. In addition to that, I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery element around the veil between the gods and humans and the way in which monsters, ghosts, and demons seems to slip through.
I would definitely recommend this book to any fan of fantasy, fairytale retelling, and/or Marissa Meyer!
