This is a dark fairytale retelling. I listened to the audiobook and though it took me just a little bit to get into the story, I ended up really liking it!
It is a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin and this story honestly a little darker than I expected. I was curious as to how this fairy tale storyline would be pulled off, but it definitely works. If you're familiar with the tale the MC, Serilda, is cursed by the God of Lies which causes her problems with the menacing Erlking causing her to summon the help of a magical boy. I will include a trigger warning about death of children.
It ends leaving the reader to believe there will be more books to follow in a series, which can be helpful to know going in.
