This retelling of Rumplestilkskin was a haunting beautiful yet dark novel. It's no secret that Marissa Meyer does fairytale retellings really well, and this story was no exception. The cover is gorgeous, the back blurb is engaging, the writing is amazing, and the story is so gripping and enticing. I'm hooked, and that cliffhanger ending really got me! I actually thought this was going to be a standalone, so the ending definitely surprised me (but I'm excited that there is going to be a sequel).

I love that this story wasn't just about the story Rumplestilkskin as we know it; the author wove in some other inspirations as well. I.e. The German tale of the Erlking.

The Erlking was actually scarier than the classic Rumplestilskin character in my opinion, and I loved that!

In regards to Serilda, I love that she was a storyteller herself, just like the author.

Great read overall!
