I absolutely love everything that Marissa Meyer writes, and Gilded was no exception. This is an exciting, intricate, and beautifully written retelling of Rumplestiltskin, a fairy tale I haven't seen many adaptations of. The story follows Serilda, a protagonist who is an outcast in her town and experiences the weight of being viewed as different, but she is also bold and outspoken, brave, a little impulsive, and kind. She's a super interesting protagonist and I think readers will enjoy following her on her journey. Her story situates the Rumplestiltskin fairy tale in a unique Scandinavian inspired mythology that's intriguing, and definitely a bit eerie. There are monsters and creatures and danger throughout this story, and it brings the stakes much higher than they are in the original tale. This story has great twists and turns and kept me captivated throughout. Definitely recommend for lovers of retellings and fantasy.
