This is the first book I've read by Meyer and I was blown away! The story starts with Serilda, a young woman blessed by Wyrdith, the god of lies and fate. She has the gift to spin wonderful tales that captivate her young charges. Sometimes the stories get her in as well as out of trouble. Serilda is clever and thinks fast on her feet, even when face to face with the Erlking and his dark hunt. It is through one of her tall tales that she tries to avoid being taken by the hunt only to end up at their castle, charged with spinning straw into gold chains.

It's there she meets Gild, the castle ghost, who actually can spin anything into gold but only for a price. Traditionally Rumpelstiltskin only spins straw for favors, in the hopes of getting a human child. Gild is the ghost of a young man who takes pity on Serilda at first and wants to protect her from the threats of death by the Erlking, whom he dislikes.

Meyer weaves a fantastic story with likeable and complex characters, twisting the elements of the classic fairy tale to build something new and exciting. The world is built on German elements with some unique twists on the deities and mythological creatures that really flesh out the fairy tale feel of the story. Absolutely binge-worthy read!! Loved every page!
