Gilded by Marissa Meyers is beautifully written and the words come alive on the page. You can absolutely picture Serilda, as she first gets into trouble for telling tales and a completely different Serilda as she interacts with the children, who clearly adore her. The Erlking, dead or alive, is such a clearly defined character that you can absolutely see his imposing figure in your minds eye. It is impossible not to root for Serilda who seems to really need a win, as she attempts to protect the Moss Maidens, that she squirreled away in her cellar. Serilda is cleaver and quick and I liked her from the beginning. The only thing I did not like is when the First Look ended, as I absolutely need to know what happens next.
