Gilded is a retelling of the classic take Rumpelstiltskin and Marisa Meyer does an amazing job immediately hooking the reader into what should be a familiar tale. Instead, she weaves an engaging story set in a Germanic kingdom about Serilda, a miller's daughter, who is cursed by the god of lies to tell lies that often take the form of fantastical stories. When she spins one such tale to the god of the hunt and his hellhounds, we wait with bated breath to see how she will manage to survive.
The writing style is a perfect mix of detailed and engaging and though the story is familiar, the plot is not. The jacket cover is similarly beautiful, with a hint of the classic story at the heart of this tale. Overall, I absolutely can't wait to read more!
