Using inspiration from the captivating story of Rumplestiltskin, Marissa has created her own world that transports you to a dark, wintery fantasy land. From a mischievous storytelling heroine whose lies get her into trouble to the haunting folklore and creatures that roam the world, my love for dark fantasy has never felt more seen. The environment and main character captured my heart from page one. I just know this book will become an instant favorite and has soared to the top of my TBR list! I eagerly look forward to November 2nd to dive back into this world I am madly (and dangerously) falling in love with!

Now that I've written the pretty back-of-the-book-style review, I can finally use my squealy, fan-girl tone to express how excited I am for this book to come out! I've gotten to the point that anything written by Marissa Meyer is a must-read for me, and I feel no different about this book.
First, the ambiance of the world was something I didn't know I needed until now. I'm not sure if this is where she got her inspiration from, but I felt transported to a Medieval Russian Winter-Wonderland with shadows that hold more than they tell.
Second, the folklore in and of itself in this story is just excellent! The promise of discovering magical creatures and aspects of the world gives me the feel of diving into a world I know nothing about head-first, which just happens to be my favorite feeling in the world!
And lastly, the Heroine, Serilda has captured and run away with my heart. It is exciting to see a character that has storytelling talents that may not be powerful in the way that weaponry or a particular magical gift is, but is still a vital tool that she wields to help her through her trials.
If it wasn't obvious enough, I am absolutely thrilled to get my hand on this book! I already know this will be an ultimate favorite. Marissa Meyer, thank you for coming out with - once again - a book that transports me into the world and story I need most.
