This book was not what I was expecting. For one thing, I was not expecting this book to be part of a series. It very much seemed to be a stand-alone novel, but I was not unhappy with the results. The book was intriguing, and I liked the characters, but I wish it went a little fatter in-depth as to their motivations beyond greed and jealousy. It seemed very much like a reoccurring theme. I also feel like many of the “drama” plot points could have been solved by a little communication. Instead of making assumptions, they could have heard both sides of the story. While I understand that once adds drama, using this tactic again and again to create drama gets old. I’m still confused on the magic system of the world, and while it is not a necessary addition, it would have made the story that more enjoyable to read. Aside from that, however, it was a lovely and engaging book to read. I could not put it down, and around every corner was a new plot twist.
