This was my first book by this author, and let me tell you, it will not be my last! Not only do I need the sequel, right now, but I look forward to reading her other series. I really enjoyed her writing. I thought it flowed very well. It was fast paced and easy to lose yourself in.
The first thing that intrigued me was the magic system. I thought the idea that the spells, curses and hexes are attached to cards was unique. I have never read another book with that sort of system.
I thought this book had a good balance of lovable characters, and hated characters. I loved that the characters weren't perfect. Marlow, was great, but she still made mistakes. She had a tendency to jump to conclusions, which got her in trouble at times. Adrius was swoon worthy, when he let the façade of being the typical playboy, go. I adored Swift and Gemma. They were so sweet and should be protected at all costs.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book, and I can not wait to read the rest of the series!
