This book is set in a fictional city with a solid barrier between the rich and poor. Having lived on both sides of the line, the main character, Marlow Briggs is left wondering where or if she belongs. With her mother missing and her job as a curse breaker causing havoc in her life, she is drawn into the sphere of the rich and powerful once again when she takes on a new case involving a curse placed on her old crush, Adrius Falcrest. There's a blood-thirsty gang after her, there's a queen bee making things uncomfortable and there's a secret, but powerful group of rogue mages following her. The end, though a cliff-hanger, was one I didn't see coming.

While I enjoyed the book and found the story line original, I found the over-use of SAT type vocabulary too pretentious for the intended audience. No one likes to read a book with a dictionary. I am hoping that future books in this series will tone down the wordiness.
