I'm familiar with this author but haven't read any of her work before. The cover for this book looks interesting and I loved the illustrations added to the opening pages of this first look. However, after reading the opening pages I found myself not connecting with the writing style of the author. I noticed a lot of echoes early on which make stories drag in pacing for me and I quickly found myself bored with the opening.
