Playing with the tropes of noir fiction in a fantasy novel sounded like a fun read, and I had high hopes for this book. Instead, I found myself disappointed because Marlow didn't have any depth that was uncovered in this short excerpt. I hope the rest of the book proves me wrong, but I won't be reading it.
