I enjoyed the blend of detective plus fantasy this excerpt offers, it goes beyond the standard "hero seeking a solution" and adds that layer of Holmes-esque mental puzzling that elevates the character and gives us a glimpse into the churnings of their mind. The curse cards are pretty interesting, looking forward to learning more about the world. And of course, I LOVE a fake dating scheme, can't wait to see that play out!
