This book was so good. I devoured it in one sitting while in a waiting room. Everything from the illustrations to the characters in this book were just perfect. This is the perfect graphic novel for anyone who loves middle grade fiction. This story is all about Marlene and her relationship with her hair and with her self. She is struggling with feeling like her own person while trying to meet societal beauty standards. She faces negativity from her peers at school as well as from her family. The relationship that she has with her aunt and her love for her mom and the loyalty of her best friend are what make this book so perfect to me. The illustrations flow perfectly with the storyline and are just so visually pleasing. The cover of the book also does a great job of depicting what the story is about. I would definitely recommend this graphic novel.
