This little book just about brought me to tears. It covers a lot of ground for ostensibly being about hair. Definitely something I’d put into the hands of any child struggling to be who they are.

This book spoke to me as someone who doesn’t have the best relationship with their mother - I could really relate to our main character’s struggle with wanting to do what makes her mother happy while also having her own desires for her life.

I also love that the characters are going to look like so many children and families not often featured in children’s books so this book will feel like a mirror rather than a window for so many. I’ve actually already had the opportunity to gift my copy to my husband’s nieces.

I also loved the cool aunt in the book - I like to think that will be me someday when I have a chance for kids to actually need help with something.
