PLEASE do not change who you are to become what you think others think you should be! Does that make sense to you? Marlene needs to embrace who she is and encourage others to see her for who she is. Her hair is a big (no pun intended) part of whio she is. By making her go to the salon every week to straighten it, her mother is squashing her spirit week after week. Her hair is part of her culture and part of her identity and she needs to embrace that.
I am so tired of people judging each other based on what they see on the outside - look deeper folks, look to see who a person is on the inside. We all have things about our appearance that we may not like - but to judge other based solely on their appearance is so wrong and sop damaging to people's self-esteem. Learn to celebrate the diversity in others - learn from each other about culture, beauty, and kindness.
