I've read Claribel A. Ortega's other book Witchlings and liked it, so I had high hopes for this one too! It didn't let me down. This was contemporary and lacked the fantasy aspect I really liked but still a great story with representation desperately needed. Something I was not expecting was for this to be a graphic novel. However the art style was lovely, very bright! I really enjoyed reading through this and it was a very fast read for me. I wish more had been done about the mean bullies in the book, but I really like where the mother's character arc ended up and how much the aunt helped them both. Really strong important themes of family and generations in this book as well as dealing with grief and listening to your kid! I cannot wait to see what else this author puts out and if she'll do another graphic novel! I'd love to see a Witchlings graphic novel.
