I absolutely loved this book! The art, the writing, and the message are all so beautiful. I don't have frizzy hair but I definitely had tangled and messy hair as a kid so I can relate to the pain and comments. It's so important for kids to see themselves and their experiences in stories and I think this will help so many people feel comfortable with the hair they have.
But besides hair acceptance, I also love the discussion between Marlene and her mom. I loved seeing them actually talk and her mom accept what she was saying (with a little help from her cool aunt). And speaking of the cool aunt, I LOVED HER AND HOW SHE SHOWED MARLENE HOW TO DO HER HAIR. It was so sweet and caring.
She has such a great support network and is so good to see them listen to her as a kid. That's not always the case.
