Frizzy is an adorable graphic novel that follows Marlene on her journey to better love and understand herself and her natural curly hair. It's a story about friendship, family, and self discovery.
I absolutely loved Marlene, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching her grow more comfortable in her own skin as the story progressed. She's a sweet, sassy protagonist, and I was very invested in what was happening to her throughout the graphic novel.
The illustrations are gorgeous, and the story was very fast-paced. I was up past my bedtime reading it because I was just flying through the pages, and I lost track of time. It's absolutely a story that I wish I had had as a middle school girl with curly/frizzy hair too. The message is wonderful, and I really think this book will appeal to middle grade girls. I think it's an important story and conversation starter for young girls to have.
