First of all, I loved Bousamra’s illustrations. They were cute and the color has a modern retro feel to it. They paired perfectly with Ortega's dialog. Speaking of which, the story is also cute and looks like something young reader would enjoy and relate to. Especially Marlene’s struggle between being herself and the expectations her family pushes on to her and her hair. She is such a sweet character and I can't wait to see where her curly hair journey takes her.
