We need more books like this!!! So many girls, especially Brown and Black girls, are taught to be ashamed of their natural hair, and I think books like this are essential in changing that mindset. While this book is clearly targeted towards young girls, I think it would also be really beneficial for parents to start a conversation with their daughters. Also, I loved that the MC's Tia is a role model for her. Not only was the excerpt about what the MC felt comfortable with, it also raised important issues like the subliminal messages we send to children about what counts as beautiful, and the hypocritical idea that children must respect adults, but should not expect the same treatment in return. Overall, a cute and powerful excerpt!
