As a curly girl, I love that this book exists, and its message of acceptance. I remember entering the corporate world and being told no one would take me seriously if I didn’t straighten my hair, that curly hair looks “unpolished.” No one was teaching how to maintain our naturally curly hair. This book cleverly brings to light that the standard for feminine beauty is no longer working. The image of the girl seeing her reflection in the spoon broke may heart. I’m so grateful that books like this are now available to help young people - and their parents - shift societal norms.
