Reading this gave me some childhood trauma that I also went through because of my hair. Mine and my sibling's was also wild and frizzy on its own just like Marlene's. My mom didn't know how to deal with our hair and would get mad just like Marlene's mamí. I now love my hair and say it to anyone who needs to hear it.

A lot of kids in latino/hispanic households get rude comments and comparisons on our hair, as if it was a wrong decision to make, even though we were born with it.

This is a perfect book for kids going through the same thing. To accept themselves for who they are and not take anything negative from anyone.
