As a huge fan of First Second I may be biased, but I can already feel that this middle grade graphic novel is going to be a favorite and a staple in bookstores, classrooms, and libraries. Bousamra's art is bright, dynamic, and inviting, and Ortega's story is not only approachable but also extremely relatable for many kids.
Frizzy surely belongs in the ranks of other excellent comics like As the Crow Flies, Be Prepared, Making Friends, The Prince and the Dressmaker, and Kiss Number 8, which are only a few of my favorite comics (some also published by First Second) that deal with feeling isolated as a kid.
I'm so excited to read the rest of this story, and look forward to recommending it at my library!
