The artwork is the first thing that stood out to me. Obviously with a graphic novel you want the artwork to draw you into the story and this definitely did. Marlene is such a pretty name she seems like a very spunky kid. She’s getting ready for her cousin’s big dance and absolutely hates getting her hair done. It makes her feel awkward in front of her family. I feel like this has more to do with her family dynamics and fitting in with them as it has to do with her hair. This was a very cute beginning.
