From the first illustration of the girl with curls, I adored this book. It's like a callback to my childhood of trying to tame my wild locks. The hustle and bustle of the Dominican salons. And yes the family making rude comments and having to sit through them like it's nothing! Poor Marlene! Overall it was a great intro.
